Fun once a week in Tulfes, venue for the World Klumper Championships
The World Klumper Championships staged in Tulfes in 2006, 2010 and 2015 did a lot to raise the profile of this currently very popular sport, not just among holidaying guests, but also among the locals. Every week from end of December "klumping" will be the major event on the southern outskirts of the village of Tulfes, Austria's one and only klumper resort.
From 7 p.m. onwards many klumper enthusiasts practice at the "Klumper"-slope. It's amazing how quickly and easily beginners learn to use a klumper, a single-runner toboggan. You only need to sit on it once, take a couple of spins and before you know it you're ready for the final race at 8 p.m.
You don't need to be a top sportsman to use a klumper. Children, parents, even grandparents, glide easily downhill and can demonstrate newly-acquired skills in the slalom race. Anyone can take part and it only costs a small entry fee. Every entrant in the guest category receives a small wooden klumper as a souvenir as well as a certificate. Afterwards you can enjoy a warming glass of "Glühwein" in the cosy mountain hut, sit among the ranks of klumper experts and discuss questions of style and cornering technique. If you prefer to watch, you are very welcome to stand beside the illuminated piste and enjoy the romantic wintry scenery.
If you pay the entry fee of € 4.00 (adults) or € 2.00 (children), you can take part in the closing race at 8 p.m. The event finishes with the final prize-giving ceremony after the race at 10 p.m.
Date: Starting from the 29th of December 2016 and then every Thursday evening
Time: 7 til 10 p.m.
