Via Ferrata

The starting point of Austria's 1st legends via ferrata is located above the Zirbensee. For the ascent of 400 meters altitude difference you need about 2.5 hours. Only 10 minutes from the exit is the Glungezerhütte, which offers a stop and invites you to linger!

In 2021, the via ferrata on the Glungezer in Tyrol was extensively renovated and expanded by the Alpine Club Hall. The existing route was given a general overhaul so that the via ferrata can also be used as a teaching, learning and training via ferrata in the future. In the boulder terrain, different levels of difficulty were taken into account, from easy ("Category A") to difficult ("Category C"), in order to cover all requirements. The via ferrata includes short and long steep climbs, ridge intersections, chimney passages and a rope bridge.

In order to also do justice to the rich treasure trove of legends surrounding the Glungezer, striking spots have been named with terms from the legend of the "Glungezer giant". The trail begins with an easy climbing practice slab. Then leads to various passages such as the "King's Balcony", the "Princess's Crown" or the "Magic Wall". For children there is a folder about the legend of the Glungezer giant in connection with the via ferrata passages.

The via ferrata is suitable for children from the age of 8 years. Please make sure that you are carrying the appropriate equipment with you at all times.
Suitable equipment including via ferrata set, via ferrata harness and climbing helmet can be rented directly next to the valley station of the Glungezerbahn at the bike rental Total
